Recycling is, without a doubt one of the keys to ensuring survival of our planet. This becomes especially true now that the human species is fast approaching the 9 billion homo sapiens sustainability marker. With this in mind it is the responsibility of individuals, as well as businesses, to recycle and reuse materials. When it comes down to the bottom line though, recycling also provides additional benefits, monetary, civic, and public. While all businesses, both big and small, should recycle, some businesses will benefit more noticeably than others.

The recycling industry

With the growth of the recycling industry, businesses that specialize in recycling are growing and able to hire more people. This is great for the community as it provides well paying jobs to the community. Some of the most common recycling companies specialize in copper, aluminum, steel, brass, batteries, cast iron and other metals.

Construction and manufacturing

Recycled materials are less costly overall then buying them new. Aluminum alone, costs half as much to make from recycled materials as it does to make a piece from raw materials because less energy is needed to reshape it. When metals, old cars, and batteries are brought to a place like one of the many scrap yards, they leave as I-beams, nails, bars and other construction materials, which can be picked up at a less expensive price while maintaining the quality of the original item.

Demolition businesses

Instead of going to a landfill, demolition businesses can take the materials from a demolished building to a recycling plant, some places charge, but will give a lower rate than a landfill, per pound. Some recycling companies will even opt for an even exchange if the demolition company brings a set amount of material in per week.

Trucking industry

These newly formed materials need a way to there destination. Not all recycling plants reform the recycled materials on site, some break it down then send it to a factory where it becomes the new item. Then that new item is sent out by truck, train, plane, or boat.

All of these businesses can work together, for their mutual benefit and the benefit of all of the species that call this planet home. The jobs created by theses businesses will ultimately work into the whole of the economy.
