VMD Wins First Small Business Administration 8(a) Contract

VMD Systems Integrators, Inc. of Tysons Corner, Va. today announced it has received its first federal government contract award under the U.S. Small Business Administration’s 8(a) Business Development program, less than one month after entering into the program.

Under this contract, VMD will assist the Federal Aviation Administration in the procurement of a new commercial information system, and the development and implementation of new business processes and organizational alignments to address the issues of optimizing air traffic controller scheduling and workforce planning. This program will assist the FAA in achieving goals of improving safety, minimizing cost of operations, and improving allocation of highly skilled human resources.

The SBA 8(a) program, named for a section of the Small Business Act, was created to help small disadvantaged businesses compete in the American economy and access the federal procurement market. The program offers a broad scope of assistance to socially and economically disadvantaged firms, including sole source contract awards up to a ceiling of $3 million for goods and services.

"I'm optimistic that this award will extend the relationship we established as a subcontractor with the FAA, and give us a significant boost as we pursue new business opportunities, both in the federal government and in the private sector," said VMD Chief Executive Officer Deepti Malhotra.

VMD (www.vmdsys.com) was established in 2002 and is a woman-owned, small disadvantaged business. The company helps clients maximize the value of their information technology systems. Other VMD clients include civilian, intelligence and defense agencies. This is VMD's first prime contract with the FAA.
