Top leaders within the faith based community, business, and government
are meeting at a special four day summit, which started today, to plan
out the next steps for the permanent recovery of the gulf coast
effected by hurricane Katrina. "Community and economic development is
about taking action", states Bishop Joseph M. Simmons, CEO of the Full
Gospel EDC, who is speaking at the summit.
Reverend Jesse Jackson, founder & president of the Rainbow/PUSH
Coalition is the keynote speaker. Also in attendance representing the
federal government will be Donna Gambrell, the regional director of
Gulf Coast rebuilding.
Summit members all agree on one principal, that economic progress is
about taking actions that can be seen and felt by the people that
should be helped the most.
Special attention is being paid to family rebuilding. Bishop Paul
Morton, who is the Chairman of the Full Gospel Economic Development
Corporation, is presenting this unique conference, and has been one of
the driving forces behind faith based action in this devastated region.
Dr. Rodney Sampson, Founder of Intellectual Currency Exchange, will
host a conference session devoted exclusively to entrepreneurial
development within Gulf Coast states, "Everyone knows that the American
economy is built on the small business," explains Dr. Sampson, "We
intend to do everything possible to jump start small business
development in Louisiana and Mississippi".
