Student Makes a Brake Through to Become the First YouTube Millionaire

March 5, 2008; 02:42 AM

24-7PressRelease/ - AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND, March 05, 2008 - If you have an envious streak, you probably shouldn't read this. Because chances are, Nick Lowe, a 22-year-old student from Christchurch, New Zealand, is clever than you - and he is proving it by earning his first $1000 on YouTube.

Nick set up mywebbybuddies.com because he wanted to do something creative that will lead to fame and fortune, "I'd rather not be afraid to take a chance in life, because you'll never know what may come", he said.

Audrey Bell-Kearney from Sister INC, a mentoring site for entrepreneurs commented, "I like what you are doing. It has gotten me to think further outside of the box. Good luck".

His unique idea is to offer the opportunity to companies and individuals the chance to be part of an online phenomenon by advertising on 10,000 videos for $100 each.

Nick who is a design student, says that people can use the advertising time they buy to display an ad or logo and have a link to their own site.

"I think this will mostly appeal to businesses, and perhaps larger companies will buy up lots of advertising time to have a more prominent position", he said.

As the idea catches on, Nick hopes to grab the attention of Ellen DeGeneres, or at least someone from inside the industry.

"She's one of the most successful talk show host, and hopefully I can get an interview with her", he explained.

Early success does happen, Danielle A. Ledesma, a talent co-ordinator for NBC - The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, was very impressed with Nick's idea, "Awesome Idea, Love it", she commented.

Although the Tonight Show with Jay Leno wasn't Nick's first choice, Ms Ledesma gave Nick the information on whom and how to contact directly, the executive producer of the Ellen DeGeneres Show, Andy Lassner.

Asked what he will do with the money should he reach his $1m target, Nick said, "After covering the cost of my degree and travel expenses that may arise from the interviews, I'd like to invest the rest for a secure future".
