Employment Laws in Mississippi

Definition of employee/employer. Mississippi does not have a general law prohibiting employment discrimination for private employers. The general employment discrimination law applies only to state employers. All employers, public and private, are covered by the tobacco provisions.

Prohibited employment discrimination. Employers may not discriminate in employment decisions or refuse to hire a job applicant because the individual does or does not use tobacco products outside the course of employment.

Prohibited employer discrimination. It is unlawful for any person, public or private institution or public official to discriminate against any employer because the employer declines to pay for or arrange for the payment of any health care service that violates its conscience.
