Paying Terminated Employees in Maine

In Maine, any employee leaving employment must be paid in full within a reasonable time after demand at the employer's payroll office. Any loan or advance against future earnings or wages may be deducted if evidenced by a written statement signed by the employee. Reasonable time means the earlier of the next day that the employee would regularly be paid or a day not more than two weeks after the day the demand is made. Vacation pay is treated as wages. Firms with 100 or more employees the preceding year that stop business must give employees who have worked three years or more severance pay of their gross weekly pay times years of employment.
