Paying Terminated Employees in Utah

In Utah, discharged employees must be paid within 24 hours. If payment is not made within 24 hours, wages continue to accrue until paid, but not more than for 60 days. Quitting employees without a contract for a definite period must be paid on the next regular payday. Strikers must be paid on the next regular payday. In disputes over the amount of wages due, payment must be made on the regular payday to extent of the amount conceded to be due.

The requirement that employers pay terminated employees their unpaid wages within 24 hours does not apply to the earnings of a sales agent paid on a commission basis who has custody, money, or goods of his or her principal if the net amount due the agent is determined only after audit or verification of sales, accounts, funds or stocks.
