Phase I environmental audit

A Phase I environmental audit is generally one that meets criteria specified by the American Society for Testing and Materials. The audit must be performed by an environmental consultant, who will review a wide variety of available information about the site and the operations that have been conducted on it, and also perform a non-intrusive physical inspection of the site and the current operations. State law may define who is qualified to perform a Phase I audit, and may also define what needs to be done in the audit itself. If the results of the audit are unsatisfactory, the next step should be to conduct a Phase II audit.
