Workplace Smoking Rules in GeorgiaGeneral Provision. Effective July 1, 2005, the Georgia Smokefree Air Act of 2005, bans smoking in all public places and in all enclosed areas within places of employment, including common work areas, auditoriums, classrooms, conference and meeting rooms, private offices, elevators, hallways, medical facilities, cafeterias, employee lounges, stairs, restrooms, and all other enclosed facilities, with specific exceptions. Employers are required to communicate the smoking ban to all employees by July 1, and to prospective employees as well. Posting requirements. Persons who operate day-care centers, group day-care homes or family day-care homes must post signs prohibiting smoking during hours of operation. |
