Personal Income Tax in Montana

If you are a resident or nonresident of Montana and receive taxable income individually from property owned or business transacted in Montana, you are subject to tax on net income. Therefore, if you are operating your business as an S corporation, partnership, limited liability company, or sole proprietorship, you will be subject to a personal income tax on your business income that passes through to you.

The following 2006 Montana personal income tax rates apply to the amount of income over the exempted amount:

Taxable Income Amount of Tax
Over $0, but not over $2,400 1%
Over $2,400, but not over $4,300 2% less $24
Over $4,300, but not over $6,500 3% less $67
Over $6,500, but not over $8,800 4% less $132
Over $8,800, but not over $11,300 5% less $220
Over $11,300, but not over $14,500 6% less $333
$14,500 and over 6.9% less $464
