Which Benefits Are You Required to Offer?

Small employers are not required to provide:

• retirement plans
• health plans, except in Hawaii
• dental plans
• vision plans
• life insurance plans
• paid vacations
• paid holidays
• paid sick leaves

So what do you have to do? While the benefits mentioned above are not required, you are required to:

• allow employees time off to:
  • vote
  • serve on a jury
  • perform military service
• comply with all requirements of workers' compensation
• withhold for FICA and FUTA
• contribute to state disability programs in states where such programs exist (California, Hawaii, New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico, and Rhode Island).
