Testing Job Applicants

There are many tests that you can administer to job applicants. Some cannot legally be given until after a conditional job offer has been made, while some may be a part of the application and selection process.

• In deciding to test, be sure to consider what you want to find out about applicants.
• Choose an appropriate and fair test that is a valid predictor of employees' performance.
• Administer the test fairly, to guard against antidiscrimination lawsuits.

• achievement tests
• aptitude tests
• physical ability/agility tests
• personality tests
• honesty tests
• lie detector test
• drug tests
• medical exams
