Don't Take Small Business Security for Granted

There comes a time when you need to protect your small business and your home with a security system.

As a small business owner, you've probably got a lot to lose in the case of a break in, and it's smart to cover your assets. A security system can help you do that.

For many small business owners, their business is in their home, so protection is even more important.

According to the FBI, a burglary takes place every 14.6 seconds, and though most burglaries happen in residential establishments, business break-ins make up over a fourth of all break-ins.

Whether you are protecting your home, your business, or both, here are some key points on what to look for in a security system:

Figure out what type of security is best for you. In other words, what type of monitoring should you have? As the following article shows, most fall under either landline, cellular or broadband monitoring, and speed, price and reliability are all factors to take into consideration on how to get the best security system;

1. Landline uses a landline phone connection to communicate with the monitoring center.

2. Cellular uses a cellular uplink to communicate with the monitoring center and won't be incapacitated if the phone lines are tampered with. It can also be faster than a landline.

3. Broadband uses the broadband connection to communicate with the monitoring center, and though it is faster than a landline, it's not always as reliable as cellular.

Installation can be done yourself or through a professional. Look at each one and see the benefits of each. You may feel more comfortable going through a company for everything, especially if you are looking at a permanent security system.

Are you interested in security cameras? Not all systems include cameras. Think about if this is something you feel will suit you and your business. Even some home owners appreciate cameras as they can see people approaching the home without going to the door. As far as a business is concerned, cameras could help catch an offender in the case of a break in.

Do you want remote access? Meaning do you want to control the system from your mobile device? Depending on your security provider and some options, you can control everything from locks to lighting to receiving alerts and notification, plus view the security cameras in real time from your mobile device.

Safety Should be Top Priority

As a small business owner, or homeowner, you want to stay as safe as possible.

Keep in mind other safety measures along with a security system, like good lighting, keeping landscaping to a minimum and avoiding advertising if you are going out of town to keep you safe from break ins.

A security system is often a deterrent in and of itself, and in the case of an actual break in, chances are better of stopping the crime and keeping everything safe.

Take some time to decide what kind of system is best for you and your business property, and then go about implementing it.

You may be surprised at the peace of mind you find yourself with.
