Black Friday isn't just a major shopping day for the big names.

The little guys can jump into this day, too, gaining that extra holiday business from the biggest shopping day of them all.

With a small business, it's imperative to get the word out so your customers will remember you, and bring you their business.

Here are some marketing ideas to capitalize on Black Friday 2013:

1. Use your mailing list

Send out postcards/emails to your customers to let them know of your Black Friday specials. Include a coupon if you are going that route, or if everything is on sale, and no coupon needed, let them know. Include pertinent information, like extended store hours, specials, free shipping, anything extra you are doing.

2.  Do the extra

It's not just about the sales, it's about the holidays and customer service. It's the day the holiday season kicks in, so add some holiday cheer. Have some seasonal music piping through the store; serve hot cocoa and warm cookies if feasible. Keep it tasteful, though, too much cheer can be a turn off.

3. Get Social

Tease up to the date with your social media. Tweet, post, Facebook it. You can even add special promotions for social media followers, like "Mention us on social media and get an extra 10% off." Let them know more specials will be offered from social media throughout the season. This way they'll help you in your online marketing endeavors. Don't forget to hashtag #blackriday.

4.   Service providers

If your company is more of a service provider, you can still take advantage of the holiday. Run specials that may take someone into the New Year or offer coupons/discounts that can be used within a set time. Another idea is something like free or discounted services to the first 5 or 10 customers.

5.  Give your customers what they want

They don't want to come in and buy things they don't want. Offer your popular items and services at too good to pass up prices. Maybe put together some holiday packages of your most popular products. Have seasonal themes - for instance, if you sell handmade candles, incorporate some limited time holiday fragrances and packaging. You can do this online or in a brick and mortar shop.

Black Friday is a great time for not only bringing in your current customers, but to also gain one new ones.

Make the experience of Black Friday shopping a good one for your customers, and it can be a great one for your business, too!
