When you are running a small business and are on a budget, every little bit of money saved makes a big difference.

If you choose to incorporate recycling in your business, you are not only helping to save the environment, but helping with your business budget as well.

Here are some tips to developing a recycling program and incorporating smart changes in your business.

Upcycle Furniture and Décor

If you have not yet furnished your office or retail store, consider using upcycled furniture.

You can easily buy used furniture, chairs, desks, filing cabinets or décor and improve upon it so it matches your own décor style. Wood furniture can be painted or given a different furnish, upholstery furniture can be reupholstered and other décor items can be used as-is.

Go Paperless

One of the best ways to save money before recycling is not using paper at all.

Save money on printing costs and the cost of paper by going digital with as much as possible. If you don't need to print an email or fax, don't. Don't make paper copies of everything that you have a digital copy of.

Use online faxing instead of faxing in your office. All of these things help you to save money and put toward your business budget.

How Recycling Saves Your Business Money

It can help to understand exactly how recycling saves your money and why you should consider developing a recycling program at your business.

First of all, you save money by going paperless and not having to buy paper, printer ink or any of the other supplies needed for printing, photocopying and faxing.

Recycling goods is also less expensive than disposing of trash, so just by putting paper, cardboard and other goods in a recycle bin as opposed to the trash bin, saves on your net operating costs. It also won't cost you much of anything to start the recycling program, so you don't need to worry about the start-up costs.

Setting up Recycling

You have three main options when it comes to setting up your recycling program: sharing a recycling container, bringing in recyclables yourself or having a recycling service pick up the bins.

What you decide will depend on how big your business is, if businesses nearby have programs to share with and if you have the ability to bring in your recyclables.

The easiest option is to contact your local waste company ad ask if they are able to bring a recycle bin and will pick up trash at the same time as your recyclables. However if you want money back from what you recycle, you will need to bring them into a drop-off facility.

What Can Be Recycled?

When it comes to what you are able to recycle, there are many items you might be surprised by.

Some common things you can recycle include aluminum and other metal, paper, cardboard, plastic and glass. Recycling is a great part of budgeting that can help your bottom line and the environment.

By recycling, you are helping to become a more eco-friendly business and saving on your operating costs.

By becoming a business that recycles regularly, you also improve your reputation and can get more customers.
