The National Pest Management Association (NPMA) will showcase its commitment to diversity and future entrepreneurs during its Annual Legislative Day in Washington, D.C. on February 26th. Michael Barrera, President and CEO of the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Genma Stringer Holmes, President and CEO of Holmes Pest Control and Chair of Minorities in Pest Management (an affiliate of NPMA ) are scheduled to speak.
Each speaker brings a dynamic perspective to the changing American
landscape of who we identify as small business owners and
entrepreneurs. Mr. Michael Barrera is an accomplished lawyer and
business leader with experience in both the public and private sectors.
Barrera understands the needs of both small businesses and corporate
America, will speak about the evolving and growing role Hispanics are
playing in the nation's economy. Genma Holmes has been changing the
cultural of NPMA by founding and recruiting members for Minorities in
Pest Management (MPM) and has been a voice for women in the workplace
and for Professional Women in Pest Management. Ms. Holmes wears many
hats as she balances two companies; Holmes Pest Control and GSH
Consulting. Ms Holmes will speak about the heighten roles of minorities
and women as they are seen in more prominent roles in the private and
public sectors.
"This industry like the American workplace is changing dramatically,"
said Genma Holmes. "We as business owners, entrepreneurs and citizens
need to continue to change with the demographics of the country if we
want our businesses to grow and our employees to be successful."
MPM will also announce a new scholarship fund to encourage students to
study in industries that will have a direct impact in the field of Pest
Management. The official announcement is scheduled to take place Monday
February 26, 2007 at the Mayflower Hotel in downtown Washington, D.C.
from 4:00-5:00 pm.
