Comcast Foundation Joins USHCC Foundation in Providing Capacity Building Training

March 9, 2007; 02:45 AM

The Comcast Foundation recently announced a $300,000 grant to the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) Foundation in support of the newly created "USHCC Foundation Procurement University: The School for Successful Suppliers" program. This commitment reinforces Comcast's diversity initiatives to create opportunities within the Hispanic business community.

Through this grant, the USHCC Foundation will provide capacity building training to its national chamber executive network in ten key markets to better equip them with the necessary skill sets to assist their membership in leveraging growth opportunities for their companies. Over the next two years, the $300,000 grant will provide comprehensive training sessions with a focus in the area of "Mastering the Corporate Supply Chain" and will work in collaboration with local Hispanic Chambers of Commerce in the 10 markets across the United States. The USHCC Foundation will work in collaboration with Comcast to select the 10 markets in which to host the training sessions.

"Through this grant, the Comcast Foundation is providing chamber executives with the necessary tools to increase their competitive advantage among the Hispanic business community," said USHCC Foundation Chairman Massey Villarreal. "We are looking forward to working closely with Comcast and applaud them for their continued dedication to the Hispanic business community."

"The USHCC Foundation's Mastering the Supply Chain program equips Hispanic businesses with the skills and knowledge vital for success in today's business environment," said David L. Cohen, executive vice president for Comcast and chairman of the Comcast Foundation. "Comcast recognizes the importance of supplier diversity in corporate America and is pleased to support the USHCC Foundation in creating opportunities for Hispanic businesses."

The USHCC Foundation will roll out this initiative with a one-day conference in Washington, DC in May 2007. This conference will provide a comprehensive overview of the status of Hispanic Business in the procurement arena, both private and public sectors. A series of regional conferences promoting the Mastering the Supply Chain program will be held throughout the country following the kickoff conference. In addition, a major conference is scheduled as part of the 2007 Annual USHCC Convention & International Pavilion to take place September 19-22, 2007 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

"Comcast is a strong supporter of the Hispanic business community and I am delighted to partner with them on this initiative," said USHCC Foundation President & CEO Frank Lopez. "With Hispanic business enterprises rapidly growing, this initiative will provide Latinos nationwide with the education and training necessary to become global competitors in the U.S. economy and achieve entrepreneurial success."

"Comcast is pleased to support the USHCC Foundation's unique program, which will provide Hispanic small business owners insight into the corporate supply chain," said Susan Gonzales, vice president of the Comcast Foundation and senior director of Government Affairs. "These business owners represent one of the fastest growing segments in small business ownership today and the services provided by the USHCC Foundation are critical to their success."

Supporting the USHCC Foundation further exemplifies one of Comcast's key diversity initiatives to create opportunities for the Hispanic community. Comcast's commitment to diversity is focused on four key areas: attracting and retaining a multicultural workforce, developing a diverse supplier group, offering a wide selection of multicultural programming and pledging significant community investments.
