In order to keep your small business running along the tracks smoothly, you simply need all hands on board.

If you need that translated, it means having employees who buy into what you’re trying to do to grow the business, keep customers happy, and make your brand front and center.

Unfortunately, some business owners only look at the dollars and cents portion of their small companies, not the workers who are largely responsible for growing that revenue. In those cases, employees can oftentimes become burned out, undisciplined, unmotivated and ultimately former employees.

So, what are some ways to make for not only productive employees, but also ones that are happy in the process?

Treat Them Liked You’d Like to Be Treated

For you to run your small business and have your employees in sync with your strategy start off by treating them the way you like being treated.

Sure, something like this should be a no-brainier for most company heads, but you’d be surprised how many men or women running companies forget that many of them had to start somewhere too.

So that your employees feel like they’re part of a small business that cares about them, make sure you:

  1. Compliment them – While most employees are likely to say they work simply because they have to, not everyone is all wrapped up in salary alone. When was the last time you credited one of your employees with a job well done? If you have to stop and thing for a period of time, that is an issue right there. While your employees are expected to know and do their jobs, a little positive reinforcement from time to time never hurt anyone;

  2. Entertain them – Whether it is a free gym membership, outings to entertainment events or even something as simple as paying for a home television/Internet connection via Direct-Sale.com specialists or another provider, this can be a good incentive for them to work hard. When your employees know that you recognize their efforts, they are more likely to go that extra mile for the customer and ultimately you;

  3. Assist them – You can win more points with your workers by giving them the tools to further their careers. Personal development should always be a focus in your small business, especially as it pertains to your employees. Whether it is providing them with funding to get more schooling or having webinars or in-house educational presentations to help them better do their jobs, employee education is always a great tool that can pay dividends for you over time;

  4. Reward them – Finally, make sure that the “Christmas bonus” or other such recognition piece is in play at year’s end. While many companies (big and small) have had to or just plain decided to cut out such bonuses, you can still provide such recognition and stay within budget. With many individuals living from paycheck to paycheck in today’s economy, even a little bonus at the end of the year is better than none.

When it comes to rewarding your company’s employees for their efforts, show them you really do care.
