Happiness can sometimes be a difficult thing to quantify. You have to take a lot of factors into consideration in order to ensure the comfort of your employees in the workplace. Here are some steps that you can take to get you started on keeping your employees as comfortable as possible.

Invest in Ergonomics

Consider your office furnishings when it comes to how much time employees spend working at their desks. The height of the desks and chairs is one component that will need to be taken under advisement. Another thing to consider is allowing your employees to select their own office furnishings. You may be surprised at some of the selections that they make to aid in their own comfort during the workday. Encourage periods of movement in order to reduce strain on your employees’ bodies.

Control the Temperature

The temperature in the workplace is another important factor that you’ll need to consider for the comfort of your employees. Have your HVAC serviced at least annually so that you can maintain the best temperature possible throughout the year. Another important part of maintaining the comfort of your employees is to have any HVAC repair performed quickly. You don’t want the temperature to fluctuate too much due to the changing weather conditions.

Offer Flexibility

If you are able, consider offering your employees some flexibility when it comes to the hours that they work. You may find that some of your employees are more productive when they can set their own hours. Coming in earlier or working a little bit later can also help your employees to achieve a life/work balance. This may enable you to retain your employees for years to come.

Decorate for Productivity

The type of décor that you have impacts the productivity of your employees. This may seem counterintuitive. Studies have shown that the use of color or indoor plants increases the happiness and comfort level of the employees in the office environment. Brighter colors work better because it can help to improve the mood of your employees. This translates into your employees feeling more comfortable in the workplace and therefore, they’re more productive for you.

Comfort is a fairly relative term to measure. There are lots of ways that you can help to improve the comfort level in your workplace. Consider the type of work that’s completed so that you can make the best decisions when it comes to increasing the happiness of your employees.
