For many small businesses, their website is their biggest money maker.
In fact, many small businesses do not have a brick and mortal,
traditional type of store. Instead, they rely solely on sales made
through their website.
With that in mind, you can see how
important it is to drive traffic to your website. You cannot expect
customers to visit your site if they do not know it is there. You have
to use your marketing resources to tell them about it, and entice them
to check it out.
There are many ways to do this online, such as
search engine ads and banner ads. But these are not always enough. You
may want to consider using offline tools to increase your website
traffic. Here are some ways to do this.
Slap Your URL on Everything
Make
sure your website address is on every piece of offline advertising
material you produce. Every business card should have your URL on it.
Every time you design a brochure printing, your web address should be
prominent in your mind. Every poster, every flyer, ever catalog –
everything that promotes your business must have your URL displayed on
it.
Direct Mail
You may want to print up some postcards (with
your web address very visible on them) and send them to specially
selected customers. Direct mail campaigns like this can drive traffic
to your site very effectively if you send them to the right people.
Obviously, you want to target people who are likely to need or want the
products that you offer.
Press Releases
This is one of those
rare advertising tools that is absolutely free. Send a press release
(via email) to all of the media outlets in your area, including
newspapers, radio stations, and television stations. While you are not
assured of receiving a lot of attention, you may get lucky and get some
decent exposure from this effort. It does not take long to do, and it
is totally free, so why not try it?
Mobile Billboards
You can
purchase magnetic sings and stickers that you can place on a variety of
things, such as vehicles. Of course, you want to make sure that your
website address is very visible on these things. These can be effective
because they move with you and therefore advertise to a wide variety of
people. These tools are also quite cheap and do not take long to
produce.
Other Knick-Knacks
There are some other little
trinkets that you can place your URL on and hand out to customers.
These include key chains, coffee cups, writing materials, and mouse
pads. If you distribute these things to the right people, it can
generate some traffic to your website.
