Your communications network is your lifeline to the outside world. You must not only have the appropriate technology for the times, but you must also make sure that you are keeping up with future improvements so that you are not left behind in your industry.

Here are five ways that you can bolster the VoIP network of your business.

Voice over Data

First, be sure that your network has the ability to handle voice communications as easily as it handles data. Usually, having to run two separate networks for data and for voice is too expensive in terms of technology as well as manpower. Also, a single network will deliver more uniform services that can give a much easier path to upgrades and scalability in the future.

Preparation

Second, have your management tools started up already before your service begins. If you need to outsource call management services, find a reputable company and do so. Most of the time a software based management solution is the best bet; hardware based tools tend to be expensive to deploy.

Prioritization

Third, prioritize your voice traffic by configuring your QoS. QoS is basically a prioritization technique that any network management rep can employ in order to make sure that certain types of traffic get through. In most cases, it makes sense to prioritize voice communications over other kinds of communication.

Training

Fourth, make sure that all of your staff is trained in the network procedures. Your network could be the absolute best on the market. If you have an untrained staff, then you will not have the resources necessary to properly deploy it. Eventually, the data that would have come through your system will find other ways to travel.

Make sure that your voice and your data staff are receiving the same type of training so that there is not a wall between them. Remember that both data and voice communications are in digital cohabitation with each other - they should understand each other's needs.

Safety

Finally, make sure that your network is secure before your deployment. There is nothing worse than a network that exposes the data communications of its clients to every Tom, Dick and Harry on the planet. In order to avoid unhappy clients as well as potential legal concerns, prioritize the safety net of your network before anything else happens in line with deployment.

There are other things that a business must consider based on its individual needs (global CTI). However, the tips above can serve as a good starting place.
