Making a website for your business can be a fun and rewarding, but it can also be quite daunting. Should you go it alone, or leave it to the pros? Here are five things to consider before building your site.

1. How Tech Savvy Are You?

If you have a hard time checking your email, than you should probably leave your website to a professional. There is a lot of learning that goes into making a great business website, and if you haven't heard of HTML or CSS, then it's time to find a web designer. On the other hand, if the idea of building a website doesn't scare you, then maybe you should go for it. Make sure you look for web hosting reviews before you take the plunge.

2. Is Your Business Done Primarily Online?

Operating an online business is much easier if you are competent in web design. Even if someone else builds it for you, learning your way around is an excellent idea. Furthermore, constant website maintenance can get expensive, and making the changes yourself can save you a lot of money. Also, if you lose your developer, your business is dead until you get another.

3. Do You Know Someone That Makes Websites?

Having a friend or relative in the field is a great way to get a business website done at a more affordable price. Especially if they are just starting. Professional results, friend prices? Yes, please.

4. When Do You Need it By?

If you need a website next week, then you will want to find a web developer. Finding your way through a slough of web hosting packages, platforms to build your site on, and learning code while still taking care of your business in a serious time-crunch is not a pleasant experience. I have built several websites, and it still takes me around 12 hours to put one together. My first site took much longer.

5. How Much Time and Money do you Have?

If you don't have time and you have the money, have someone else build your site. It is a learning curve that you do not need. If every dollar counts, than you better get building yourself.

It is important to be ready before building your business' website. Don't let a new experience get in the way of your business. When you find that you can answer these five questions, you'll likely know what measures you should take for your site.
