Water leaks can waste tens of thousands of gallons of water a year and raise your company’s utility bills. If the leak has progressed and started to damage the surrounding wall, floor, or ceiling, there is even additional monies wasted in replacement cost.

Here are reasons to make it your business to stop costly leaks and not just write them off as a mild annoyance.

It Can Drive Off Business

Many customers do not want to go offices or businesses that have stained water spots on the ceilings, walls, or floors. It may have a musty aroma in the business that cannot be covered with air fresheners. Even worse, you may have a mold problem because of the leak. While stains and smells are just annoying, mold can be a health issue. Clients and customers want to come into a business that is healthy, clean, and top-notch.

It Can Be Costly

Water leaks can seem like a small time problem, but they can be very costly in both damage and in higher utility bills. Even a small leak, if it is in the walls, can cost you the price of sheet rock, perhaps new flooring, and other repair items. Also, water leaks can be around 10,000 gallons of water loss each year, which can be costly on your utility bills. Sometimes a simple repair job is all that is needed, however if you need replacements, you still are better off cost-wise than letting the leak continue.

Some Tips on Checking for Water Leaks

  • One of the easiest ways to tell if your office or home toilets are leaking is to drop a few drops of dark food coloring in the tank of the toilet. Wait fifteen minutes and if you see any of the coloring in the bowl, you have a running or leaking toilet. Make sure to flush after this test so that the food coloring will not stain the toilet.
  • Water heaters and hose bibs can be checked simply by listening for hissing or other sounds coming from them. If you can't hear anything, it may mean that the leak is elsewhere.
  • The simple way to know you have a leak is when there is obvious water damage. If it has progressed to this stage, you really need to call a professional.

Whether it is your home or office, water leaks are a serious business. If you aren't handy, or if you have tried to fix it and it is still a problem, call a professional to get in there and fix the water leak quickly and efficiently. Water leaks can wreck your floors, ceilings, walls, and create harmful mold. The quicker you find the leak and repair it, the less damage your home or office will be subjected to.
